READATHON |
| Mission |
Co-ordinated by the READ organisation, READATHON is an annual literacy event aiming to focus the public's attention on the need to develop a culture of reading in South Africa.
|
| Objectives |
For the last couple of years, through the generous sponsorship of various corporate giants, READ has been able to distribute READATHON posters, and a handbook containing imaginative and fun reading and writing exercises for the classroom, to 27 000 schools nationwide. The underlying thread of these activities is to motivate and stimulate a culture of reading. The campaign generates activities at many levels and works in support of the government's goals of having a literate nation. It provides a much anticipated social focus in rural communities. |
