Reading Promotion

National Book Week

National Book Week is about promoting reading. It is part of a national effort to embrace the value of reading and share it with as many people as possible.

The project is a joint initiative between the South African Book Development Council and the Department of Arts & Culture and takes place from 6 - 13 September this year. During this time all involved in reading, schools, libraries, reading promotion projects and corporate social investments programmes are encouraged to celebrate reading and the magic of books.

An exciting programme will take place at Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg, from Friday 10 – Monday 13 September.   Children and adults, schools and various groups, as well as teachers and librarians will be able to attend various activities.

A Seminar Programme will also be run at Museum Africa at this time. It includes a Pan African Writer’s Symposium, Reading Promotion Symposium, How to sessions, an Authors’ Programme and a session on the Future of Reading.

Entrance to National Book Week is free and everyone is welcome.    Please refer to the programme for events that require pre-registration.
