The request that came from the Digital Technologies Summit is clear. Government wants industry to develop a solution for digital learning resources in South Africa. The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC), Department of basic Education (DBE), The Library Association of South Africa (LIASA) are all asking for a coherent strategy. Once the strategy is in place, competitiveness can happen.
- Local solutions – infrastructure, content, capacity – Department of trade and Industry (DTI), DAC, Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS)
- Fast-track innovation
- New business models
- Research into consumer digital behaviour to gain an understanding of what the consumers really want. Institutional (education, libraries), the individual and the disabled
- Address the digital skills gap and fast track upgrade of skills
- Regulatory environment to support these aims and initiatives
